Nursing: November 2025 Annual Skills & Compliance Validation

The following outline details the required nursing skills for November’s Skills Fair sessions. Each competency should be performed according to current best practice, Tufts Medicine Care at Home policy, and discipline-specific standards. Staff will rotate through stations for observation and validation of clinical skill.

Please arrive prepared with your clinical bag/bin for inspection and all necessary supplies or personal tools (e.g., stethoscope, blood pressure cuff). The bag and bin check will occur as you arrive and will be passed off to designated staff for review.

November Skills for Validation

• FIT Testing — Annual OSHA requirement (N95 mask fit verification).
• Bag & Bin Check — Infection control and equipment readiness validation upon arrival.
• Foley Catheter Insertion — May include male or female insertion depending on station setup.
• Hand Hygiene — Proper technique using alcohol-based hand rub and/or soap and water.
• PT/INR (CoaguChek XS) — Point-of-care testing procedure and safe specimen handling.
• Staple Removal — Sterile technique and wound site assessment.
• Orthostatic Blood Pressures — Accurate measurement and interpretation of positional changes.
• Edema Measurement — Lower extremity measurement for edema assessment and documentation accuracy.
• Monofilament Testing — Diabetic foot assessment for loss of protective sensation.

All competencies are observation-only validations unless otherwise indicated. No re-teaching will occur during the Skills Fair. Any unsatisfactory attempts will result in 1:1 remediation scheduling per standard process.

Reminder: Each participant must also complete the 2025 Annual Compliance and Training Packet, test, and attestation by December 31, 2025.
