Quit Smoking
Most cases of COPD are caused by smoking. Quitting smoking is the best way to slow down COPD. Quitting is not easy, but it could reduce the risk of other health problems – even save lives.
- Set a target date for quitting
- Prepare for a target date – throw away ashtrays/lighters/matches, clean out car ashtrays, change your routine to avoid times and places where you
usually smoke.
- Get support – Tell family and friends about the target date, ask a friend to quit with you, join a self-help group, call 1-800-QUITNOW (1-800-784-86690 for information, support and advice from a quitline near you.
