Oxygen Therapy Safety
Oxygen will not explode, but it does burn and can cause things to burn faster. The plastic tubing can also catch fire. Stay safe around oxygen equipment:
- Don’t smoke near the equipment
- Don’t use petroleum jelly
- Keep the tank well away from an open flame, a gas stove or a wood-burning stove
- Keep the equipment away from electrical appliances that may spark
- Don’t put the oxygen tubing under blankets, clothing, furniture, or carpeting
- Keep the system upright and turn it off when it is not in use.
Oxygen should be treated like any other medication. Use it only as prescribed by the doctor.
